Hobie

This warm partly cloudy Saturday afternoon I took advantage of my buddy Jim rigging his Hobie 17 and putting it on the beach to be ready for a summer of fun sailing.  His plan was to trailer the boat to the public beach in Westbrook and rig it there.  Then he would take it out for a little sail before pulling it up onto the private beach where he stores it all season.  I decided to tag along and try out my new camera.

The Hobie 17 catamaran is a fast little boat that can make for some exciting action photos in very little wind.  Unfortunately on this particular day, there was absolutely NO wind.  Forecasts called for 5-10 but I suspect we were lucky to get "gusts" of 5.  Even still it was amazing that the Hobie could get up enough motion to make the short journey.

This is my first crack at shooting outside.  I took an equal share of shots using both of my lenses.  Overall, I think they are decent.  This is also the first time I shot to a large jpeg format instead of RAW.  All were shot on P but I made no adjustments to the aperture or shutter speed.  Auto-focus we used. The shots posted here have had no editing done to them other than reducing the size.  I still have the problem of camera shake but I'm getting better at it.

Oh well, practice makes perfect.  Enjoy the photos.
