Christian Activities Council
Awards Dinner 2005

From these links you can view photos from the Christian Activities Council's 2005 Awards dinner in both black and white and color.  This is the fourth attempt at photography since I purchased a Canon Digital Rebel XT (350D) and the Canon 70-200MM f/4.0 USM lens.

I till feel like this is my first time out with the camera because even though it has been four days I haven't had opportunity to really study the shots and learn from my mistakes.  I continued with some of the same mistakes that I made in my first outing (LC2005) but again learned a lot about the camera.

I also purchased a Quantaray 28-70MM lens to cover those group shots and wider angles.  I thought zoom lens would give me more options than would prime lenses.  Less to carry.  I'm not as pleased with this lens as I am with the big Canon one but some of the problems were undoubtedly my own and not the equipment.

Lighting in this location was also a challenge that I was only moderately successful in controlling.  As you will see from some of the shots, much of the walls were uncovered window with various hues and levels of natural light streaming in.  This was the backdrop on many of my shots.  It was a bright but overcast, chilly day.  The sun was setting during the event hitting the windows from about 290 degrees.  There were lots of shadows that the overhead fluorescents didn't quite cover.  I took some shots with flash but most without.  I'll have to learn how to address this situation.  Particularly when I'm shooting people of different skin tones.

All in all I'm still very pleased with the purchase and believe that it will help me discover and deliver the message that I've been trying to find all my life.

Enjoy the photos.
